Fukushima Prefectural Government Shanghai Office (Shanghai office of the Fukushima Centre for Industrial Promotion) commenced operations on July 23 2004 in Shanghai, China, as the first overseas branch office of the Fukushima Prefectural Government. Its goal is to revitalize business and advance industry in Fukushima, through the promotion of trade with China with special focus on Shanghai, the country’s center of robust economic growth. The team, two staff members from home, two locally employed on a regular basis and a specially appointed trading advisor, are all dedicated to building new business partnerships between Fukushima & China while also providing Chinese companies with assistance for doing business with Fukushima. We here at the Shanghai Office are here to assist you.

★Our Mission

Our mission at the Fukushima Prefectural Government Shanghai Office is to promote Fukushima – China business enterprise. We are committed to the following objectives:

1. Bring More Chinese Tourists to Fukushima
   Plan & promote package tours taking advantage of the Fukushima-Shanghai regular flight service by China Eastern Airlines.
2. Increase Export of Fukushima Products
   Explore marketing potentials in China for Fukushima-made sake, farm products, arts & crafts, and support the trading of marketable products as needs arise.
3. Give Assistance to Fukushima Companies
   Provide Fukushima companies wishing to develop business in China with relevant & timely information including names of prospective partners. Also, provide troubleshooting advice in legal & accounting aspects peculiar to China through in-office, professional consultations (prior appointments required).
4. Provide Chinese Businesses with Useful Information
   A wide range of information is available for Chinese companies seeking opportunities for investment & business exchange in Fukushima.
5. Fukushima Public Relations in China
   Carry out active public relations to bolster the image of Fukushima while also making available a wide scope of information on Fukushima.
6. Utilization of Onahama Port
   Promote the use of Fukushima (Onahama)? Shanghai regular container service.
7. Support for Inter-University Exchange
   Facilitate university-to-university exchange between Fukushima & China based on the theme of business-academia-government cooperation. Sharing of knowledge & experience and active network-building to broaden the opportunities for new business.
8. Promote Fukushima-Hubei Economic Exchange
   Fukushima Prefecture & Hubei Province have been nurturing reciprocal relationship since 1994. The Shanghai Office particularly helps to foster the economic aspect of relations by implementing mutually beneficial projects.
9. Expand the Network among Fukushima Compatriots
   While serving as the secretariat for the Shanghai Fukushima Association, we help those associated with the Prefecture develop a network in China.

★Overview Fukushima

Fukushima Prefecture is located in northeastern Japan, roughly 200 kilometers north of the Capital, Tokyo. It’s the 3rd largest prefecture of all 47 in Japan, with a population of approx. 2.1 million and total area of approx. 13,782 square kilometers.
*Prefecture in Japan refers to an administrative body comparable to Province in China.
*Fukushima Prefecture sits on about the same latitude as Shandong Peninsula, China.

★Overview Shanghai

The City of Shanghai is situated on the East China coast, at the mouth of the Chang Jiang (Yangtze River). Its registered population numbering 13.42 million lives on an area of 6,341 square kilometers. There are also many resident Japanese, as many as 24,000 registered at the Japanese Consulate, and this has made the City home to the largest Japanese population in the world outside Japan.
